Contact Lens Prescriptions & Trainings

If you want contact lenses for sports (hockey, soccer, gymnastics, etc.), school, work or just occasional use, we can help you discover a contact lens that is perfect for your lifestyle.

Contacts are a safe addition to wearing eyeglasses

If you are interested in trying contact lenses for the first time, or you're a seasoned wearer wanting to try a different brand, talk to your Stonewire Optometrist about the latest options available during your next eye exam.

IMPORTANT: The prescription you receive for your eyeglasses is different than the prescription you require for your contacts. Your optometrist will take additional measurements to determine the best contact lens fit for your eyes, including corneal curvature, corneal diameter, eyelid positioning and ocular health. Every brand of contacts fits differently. Wearing a poorly fitting contact lens can lead to issues such as reduced visual acuity, dry eye, eye infections, red eyes and vision loss.

Stonewire only stocks and fits quality brand named contacts lenses from the top manufacturers, including Alcon, Johnson & Johnson, Bausch and Lomb and Cooper Vision. We stock an extensive selection of trial and retail contact lenses for same day dispensing.

Frequently Asked Questions about Contact Lenses

+ Am I A Candidate for Contact Lenses

The best way to find out is to book an eye examination with one of our optometrists. They can evaluate the health of your eyes, and determine if your prescription and eye health is compatible.

+ Are Contact Lenses Safe?

Absolutely. Contact lenses are a safe and effective way to correct your vision when paired with eyeglasses. Always follow the directions of your eye doctor and make sure you clean and dispose of the lenses following the manufacturers recommended guidelines.

+ How Much Do Contact Lenses Cost?

There are a lot of factors in determining contact lens cost, and the optometrist can give you a better idea during your exam. The cost of contact lenses will depend on the disposability (1-day, 2-week, or 1-month), along with your prescription power, and the lens style (Single Vision, Multifocal or Astigmatism) you require.

Contact lenses, however, can start as low as about $10 a month for a 1-month disposable single vision lens.*

+ Can I Sleep in My Contact Lenses?

No. We really don't recommend sleeping in contact lenses even if the lens is approved for overnight wear. Patients who sleep in their contact lenses are 5X more likely to develope a serious vision threatening eye infection. If you require the ability to sleep in your lenses because of lifestyle or work requirements, please discuss this with your optometrists. They will ensure that you are fit into an appropriate contact lens designed for extended wear (not all lenses can be worn overnight, this is a common misconception).

+ Does Stonewire Sell Contact Lenses?

Absolutely. We carry a large selection of contact lenses in stock for same day dispensing. We also ship contact lenses all over the province or to your office.
